Hey loves!

I’m back with another blog!

First and foremost, let’s delve into Mimii and Ayo’s antics. I’ve been feeling some way about this entire situation, and I need to unload all this drama proliferating on Twitter and TikTok.

I'm talking about 'Love Island' for those who might be out of the loop. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or only catch the headlines, this show is impossible to ignore.

If you’re unfamiliar, let me fill you in (because we don’t leave anyone out here).

Mimii is a stunning, model-esque woman, and Ayo is a 6"6, dark-skin Nigerian man with a charismatic smile, some might say picture-perfect.

Not me, though. I prefer facial hair and a more sculpted visage ( ‘face’ in French).

Mimii caught feelings for Ayo, which seemed mutual, although I always thought Mimii expressed more interest towards Ayo.

*sigh*

Then came Casa Amor.

Mimii was whisked away to this new villa with the other girls, and new bombshells joined.

In Mimii’s absence, Ayo started getting close to one of the new bombshells, who joined the main villa- Jessica.

Meanwhile, Mimii remained loyal to Ayo whilst at Casa, even turning down advances from another guy keen on her. She was all about Ayo, while he was all about Jessica.

Ayo ended up choosing Jessica over Mimii, leaving her single and heartbroken. Very heartbroken.

*sigh*

I felt demolished. EVERYONE was demolished.

Despite this, Mimii and Ayo couldn’t seem to let each other go. Mimii, still clinging to hope, wanted a private chat with Ayo on the terrace (quite an intimate spot in the villa), but he refused. He told her that their relationship was over and wouldn’t be revived.

Like AT ALL.

Now, Mimii is coupled with another fine, stylish man, he’s serious eye candy. Yet, she kept glancing back at Ayo.

Can you believe Ayo rejected her request for a conversation? My brain couldn’t handle it; I had to shut my laptop and collect my thoughts because, honestly, wtf did we witness?

What did we, as a nation, witness on TV?

GET IT TOGETHER.

She did not stand on business. I was mortified. Absolutely mortified.

And to top it off, he was the one who ended things…

Mimii, you deserved so much better.

Now, let’s dissect this.

She was romantically involved with Ayo for weeks, and naturally, feelings burgeoned as they got to know each other. Her desperate actions are understandable to some extent, given her intense attraction to him. Plus, Ayo has charisma, so she fell hard. Really hard.

But did that warrant her eagerness, which led to her embarrassing herself on national television? Ayo flipped the script and became the one to stand on business.

Crazy.

Why is it always women who are prudent? Men can be so mindless sometimes, and that’s exactly how I perceived Ayo… and Mimii.

Never beg for a man. But in the same breath, I empathise with poor Mimii. She was romantically and emotionally entangled with someone who she deemed shared the same feelings towards her.

Several factors can elucidate why women tend to be more emotionally invested in relationships. Evolutionary psychology posits that women's historical role in child-rearing contributes towards heightened emotional sensitivity. Socialisation further amplifies this tendency, as girls are often encouraged to articulate their emotions and prioritise interpersonal connections from a young age. Emotional investment is important for us girls!

Attachment theory suggests that early interactions with caregivers shape attachment styles, with societal norms often encouraging women to develop secure, deep emotional bonds. From a linguistic perspective, women are usually more emotionally engaged in conversations. For instance, women often use tag questions and backchannelling to foster connection and rapport. Tag questions are short questions added to the end of a statement to elicit a response, like “It’s a lovely day, isn’t it?” Backchannelling refers to listener responses that signal understanding and encourage the speaker to continue, such as nodding or verbal cues like “uh-huh” and “I see.” We prioritise cooperation and utilise inclusive language... that's why we hate men who don't communicate, duh! What we give, we need it given back i.e. ✨reciprocation✨.

Men? Yeah, they tend to infringe on people’s rights to speak. They speak assertively and lack emotional investment in their talk. They don't care and may lack emotion. I’ve learnt this, so I’m just going by the books.

Biologically, the influence of oxytocin, often called the "love hormone," plays a pivotal role in bonding and attachment, intensifying emotional involvement. As you can imagine, all this, combined with Mimii constantly being with Ayo… would’ve been a lot for her. She was bound to catch feelings for sure!

Additionally, research indicates that women generally process emotional experiences more and have greater empathy. This is why we tend to have more profound emotional investments in relationships. ALL of these things I've just explained are why women behave the way they do in romantic situations.

Plus, men’s frontal lobes don’t develop until the mid-twenties to 30.

So until they fully mature, they're childish.

Justice for Mimii came along anyway… that being Josh (the stylish eye candy I mentioned earlier).

Josh has been applying pressure, and I’ve been loving it. That is a man. Think of an attractive, athletic, well-dressed king with versatile fashion taste who is emotionally intelligent and articulates well.

Ayo could never.

I reckon Joey (one of the other islanders) is even intimidated by Josh. He wouldn't stand a chance in an argument with him.

Separately, let’s talk about Grace.

Grace is a beautiful, blonde bombshell. She has a body shaped like a number 8 and has such a feminine aura.

I’m sure we’ve all subconsciously noticed that she loves Black men (if you don't watch Love Island, basically, Grace loves them). First, it was Omar, then Konnor; she pranced to Moziah, dashed to Blade and tried it slyly with Josh. Like girl, slow down!

I was watching a TikTok by @hannahslit, in which she said a guy who’s not Grace’s type has become a euphemism for ‘Black’ [men].

Here’s the Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@hannahslit/video/7393098678405254433?_r=1&_t=8oBykL99mPg

What does Hannah mean by this? Grace basically likes Black men; they are her type, but she's not saying it. She’s showing us instead. Anyone outside this category doesn’t ignite the same spark that these Black men are supposedly doing for her.

Fairs.

And it’s true. Grace knows she likes her men to be tall, dark, and handsome…

But as in dark SKIN, dark AFRO-TEXTURED hair, and dark CHESTNUT eyes, which many Black people have, right? However, she won’t explicitly state that.

I wonder why? 🤔

I wonder if it has to do with the reactions of people around her, particularly the producers who can meddle with the footage and paint troublesome narratives on TV. The producers are infamously known to be dodgy and racist, so that could explain why.

A common phrase I’ve caught onto, and I’m sure you have too, is that women will say their type is ‘tall, dark and handsome’. It's so vague...

*yawn*

I’ve also noticed that they never address or discuss race on Love Island, which drives me to think maybe it’s prohibited in the villa or something. Again, this is my thought, but if they openly talked about race, this could help promote more awareness and understanding of different people and their preferences. The discourse surrounding their types appears so bland on TV. It makes me wonder if they weren’t being recorded, would they communicate their types differently, and perhaps be more clear and descriptive?

They would definitely state it confidently and clearly in Love Island USA I’m sure. They seem more upfront and well-spoken from the little clips I’ve seen online.

What do you think?

Grace is now coupled up with Harry. He looks like a typical, tanned and tatted Jack-the-lad, who probably goes to the pub every Sunday, drinks a Kopparberg and undoubtedly goes on a yearly lad’s holiday to Magaluf.

He gives me proper geezer vibes, and I'm here for it. He's a chill guy and seems calm. I can imagine he calls women ‘birds’.

The term "bird" woman dates back to Middle English, referring to a maiden or young woman. It was widely used in British culture during the 1960s and 1970s, particularly in working-class vernacular. It's used in various British dialects, particularly in London's working-class and Cockney dialects. It's also common in urban centres like Manchester, Liverpool, and across Northern England. This slang is less prevalent in formal or rural dialects. Pretty much, geezers may have a tendency to use that word.

Besides, I don’t think Grace likes him. I’m sure she’s secretly praying for Josh’s head to whirl towards her.

Not to mention, Sean. He can be a bit jarring at moments. I'm sure he's nice and all but he loves to instigate and stir the pot. My goodness.

His chat up lines are a bit cringe and he gives me the ick ever so slightly (sorry Sean).

Anyway, this brings me to a wrap. I wonder what more will be unleashed from Love Island as time unravels. That’s my commentary on Love Island thus far. And I bring it to a close.

In conclusion, girls- stand on business and remember you’re the prize😉

With love and curiosity,

Just Jenni
